The Class 246 – Diesel TRAXX. In 2006, the firm Bombardier presented the class 246 at the Innotrans show. This class is a diesel electric locomotive derived and developed directly from the electric locomotives in the TRAXX family. This locomotive has a maximum speed of 160 km/h / 100 mph, weighs 82 metric tons, has a nominal performance of 2,200 kilowatts / 2,991 horsepower, and is planned for passenger service. The state of Lower Saxony ordered 11 units that have again been leased to the Railroad Company. These locomotives have the attractive blue and yellow paint scheme of the Metronom trains und together with the modern bi-level cars they stand for modern, punctual, reliable service on regular schedules.
